What the G1000 market looks like
As of August 2026, PlaneFox lists 452 aircraft equipped with a Garmin G1000. 249 of them carry a published asking price, the median is EUR 585,000 and the middle half sit between EUR 383,000 and EUR 990,000. Typical build years run from 2006 to 2024.
The most listed G1000 types are the Cessna 182 Skylane (49), the Diamond DA62 (46), the Cessna 205, 206 and 207 Stationair (34), the Diamond DA40 (31) and the Diamond DA42 Twin Star (28).
The median is not a glass premium
The wider single-engine market on the same site has a median asking price of EUR 144,000 across 2,183 priced listings. The G1000 median is four times that, and reading the difference as what the avionics add would be wrong.
The G1000 selection contains twins, turbines and current-production airframes. The single-engine category contains 1960s and 1970s aircraft as well. The price is set by the airframe, and the panel follows the airframe because manufacturers fitted the G1000 to their newer and more expensive models. PlaneFox holds asking prices from separate listings rather than paired before-and-after transactions, so no premium for glass can be measured from this data, and none is claimed here.
You usually cannot retrofit a G1000
The G1000 is an integrated flight deck certified as part of a specific aircraft's type design. It is not a box you buy and install. Outside the airframes where Garmin and the manufacturer certified it, there is no approval to fit one, and the used market for pulled G1000 units exists mainly to support aircraft that already have them.
The realistic retrofit path for an older aircraft is a different product: a Garmin G500 TXi or G3X Touch with a GTN navigator, or an Aspen or Dynon display, depending on the aircraft's certification basis. Budget for an installation rather than a purchase. Panel work, wiring, the autopilot interface and the required ground and flight checks are usually a larger share of the bill than the hardware.
The practical rule when shopping: if you want a G1000, buy an aircraft that already has one. If you want glass in an aircraft that does not, price the certified retrofit for that exact type before you agree a price on the airframe.
Database subscriptions are a recurring cost
A G1000 does not stay current on its own. Navigation data is a paid subscription tied to the aircraft and renewed on its own cycle, and terrain, obstacle, airport directory and basemap data update on separate cycles again. An aircraft handed over with an expired navigation database is legal to fly under visual flight rules and is not usable for instrument approaches until it is renewed.
Ask three things before completion: which subscriptions are current, when each expires, and whether they transfer with the aircraft or have to be repurchased in the new owner's name.
G1000 or G1000 NXi
The NXi is Garmin's updated generation of the same flight deck, with faster processing, improved mapping and additional functions, available as an upgrade on many airframes that shipped with the original G1000. This matters twice: it affects what the aircraft can do now, and it affects what a future buyer will expect. A listing that says only "G1000" is worth a direct question.
Check ADS-B Out compliance in the same conversation. It is required in the airspace most owners want to use, and the equipment fit varies across G1000 installations of different ages.
Where analogue still makes sense
An analogue panel is cheaper to buy, cheaper to repair by the individual instrument rather than by the module, and it carries no database subscriptions. On an aircraft flown by day under visual flight rules, the operational difference is small and the cost difference is not.
The case for glass is instrument flying, single-pilot workload and situational awareness, plus the expectation of the next buyer. The case against is the cost of the airframes it comes attached to: the middle half of G1000 listings runs from EUR 383,000 to EUR 990,000 while the middle half of all single-engine listings runs from EUR 76,000 to EUR 295,000.
Before you make an offer
- Confirm whether the panel is G1000 or G1000 NXi, and which software version is installed.
- Get the expiry date of every database subscription and confirm transferability.
- Confirm ADS-B Out compliance and the date of the last transponder and pitot-static certification.
- For any retrofit plan, get a written quote from a shop approved for that aircraft type before agreeing the purchase price.
